Christmas and New year have been amazing for both Nic and I. we spent Christmas at a Place in Bolivia Called Samaipata, which is about two hours outside of Santa Cruz. We stayed at La Vispera, which is a small organic farm run by two Dutch expats... We stayed there for a week and although the town itself was very quiet we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.... Christmas dinner for us mainly consisted of a cold chicken we had aquired from a rotisery the day before and a few vegi´s we cooked up in our cabin, but the weather was fantastic....

We then flew from Santa Cruz to Sucre on the 27th Dec; originally our plan was to only stay a day or so but Sucre is a lovely city and we decided to stay for the New Year. In the days prior to the big event we went on a bike trip that was built up as a tour to seven waterfalls.... We were on the tour with two Brits, Carrie and Anna, from Bournemouth. The Waterfalls were a little disappointing as a child weeing in a bush would have been able to produce more precipitation but the bike ride

was a laugh with a great downhill stretch. All four of us decided to bring in the New year together and as Carrie and Anna were intending to travel to the same place as us and do a similar tour we decided to travel together on the tour of the salt flats.

Anyway New Year; wow...we went to a bar in Sucre called Joyride (No para solo gringo´s) and it was a bit of a blast. After plenty of dancing, singng and drinking we stumbled back to our Hotel at about 4am. The hangover was equally as potent as the drinks and size of measures that were served.

Following a day´s R&R we got on a bus to Uyuni. we were supposed to travel with Carrie and Anna to Uyuni, but Nic and I slept in and missed the 0700 bus, so we had to catch a later one (0830). Just as well, as the bus Carrie and Anna were on had a bit on a nightmare journey. Bus companies fill the seats of buses, but as the driver leaves the bus station they almost always fill up the aisle with additional travellers to suppliment their poor wage.

Great for the driver, not so good for the passangers, and Carrie and Anna had a child throwing up next to them for about 2 hours....we caught up with them as we got off the bus, they were only a couple of minutes ahead of us.

Uyuni was a typical small town in bolivia, not a great deal going on. the reason for going was to take a trip across the Salt flats and into Chile, however, we did find the best pizza outsise of Italy at "Minuteman" a great little restaurant run by an American guy and his Bolivian wife.

The tour was a three day trip in the back of a 4x4, consisting of the Salar de Uyuni (massive Salt Flat), volanoes, geysers, etc. All three days were amazing. On the 3rd morning we got a minibus across the border into SanPedro de Atacama, Chile. The change in temperature was almost as shocking as the change in prices!!! We hotfooted it to Argentina as fast as we could, but we had to wait 3 days for a bus to seat us. So we are now in Salta, after a 12 hr bus journey and a good
