Birthday celebrations, alcohol and memories, well, two outa three aint bad... ´fraid the memories fell by the wayside, must of gone in search of my attitude...although my attitude didn´t fall by the wayside, it was down the toilet playing with my disgraced tequila´s!! found a bastion of assorted mexican food...and...er....drank....liquid starters, liquid mains....liquid brain....drinking refreshment pouring from the skies in great abundance. On occasion, one loses his balance, and falls to the floor ...not enough sense to stay out of the rain. one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor (repeat, repeat again, repeat some more and fade...) so all in all it was a success! those of you who have experienced my condition on birthdays will be well aware of the full range of possibilities the description ´success´could possibly entail! "But if you try sometimes you ... read more

Finances = Very Green Fitness = Almost Red Relationship = Green Arguments = Zero Greetings from Argentina! For those of you who missed the KPI´s last time, they are back. Not that they all look good, we´ll explain later. The last fortnight has been a game of two halves. One week in Chile, the other in Argentina. Both countries have been fabulous and people are so helpful and friendly. This is especially good as very little English is spoken and we need lots of patience when trying to speak Spanish. We have, however, picked up some essential phrases including "Do you have a hairdryer?" and "Is there anywhere to dry our clothes?"!!! We left Santiago on the nightbus amid great excitement of almost fully reclining seats. Especially nice was the bus attendant who put a pillow ... read more

Border Crossing

Made it down to Bariloche through some beautiful scenery in the south of Argentina. Bariloche is located near the border of Chile on the Argentinian side of the Andes mountian range in Patagonia. The town looks a bit like Aspen with wood and stone buildings, ski stores on every corner, and big snow capped mountians in the background. The town was fairly small and located on a huge lake about 20 minutes from the main Catedral ski resort. I checked into this one hostel for the first night and just relaxed....made some pasta, met a few english and canadian girls and we rented a movie and stayed by the fire for the night (I know that sounds cheesy but it was really cold and I needed to get adjusted to the temps). Unfortunately due to a ... read more

We arrived yesterday in Bariloche to much colder weather than in Buenos Aires! But what a great town! Looks like some towns in Colorado-- Big lake surrounded by mountains covered in snow. It's really pretty. It started raining in the afternoon, through the night and this morning, but that hasn't stopped us from enjoying the stores, restaurants and sceanic tours. A tour bus picked us up at 8:30 am this morning for a city tour. We went up to Cerro Cathedral--big mountain--and toured the ski resort, had lunch, rode the ski lift, and drove through the national park. Oh my. What scenery! And it was snowing!! And the tour ended with a tour through the chocolate factory. Bought a few samples for later... We'll post our great pictures on the next blog. All the gear we ... read more

South America » Argentina » Río Negro » El Bolsón April 20th 2005

went to El Bolson to do a little hiking. El Bolson is a nice quiet place with nice hiking in the area. one of the nice things about Argentina is that there are refugios where you can sleep and buy food and drinks. therefore, you don't have to lug around camping equipment, cooking supplies, food .... Just take a nice hike in the woods and your bed will be ready for you when you get there. i ran into Lynne, hope the spelling is right, from California at the refugio the first night. Lynne was staying in the hostel that i stayed at in bariloche. Also met mike and Be, Mike is a gringo from Red sox nation (not a GWB fan) and Be is from Austria. They met in Honduras where they were dive instructors. ... read more

Took an overnight bus from Buenos Aires to Bariloche, somewhere around the 15th of April. Don´t remember for sure. anyway, i wanted to head south before winter set in. Bariloche is a great place, many parks in the area, great lakes and good hiking. but before i get to that, i want to talk about the bus ride. we are talking luxury, first class. full leather seats-beds, they fold into a flat bed. there was an attendant on board and he served meals, wine, whiskey and champagne!!! nice ... read more

Hello all, We had a good time in Valdivia, Chile. We stayed in a "haunted house". Okay, it wasn´t really haunted, but it sure looked that way from the outside. Ryan dug it from the minute he laid eyes on it. Ana´s opinion was different. To her it looked ancient from the outside and was dark and in slight disrepair inside. The house was built in 1903 and became unlevel during the huge earthquake of 1960. Ana did warm up to the place once the cat, Josefina, napped on her lap through an entire movie. Plus, the room was large and the hosts welcoming. While in Valdivia we enjoyed some local food and attractions. We tried "pichanga" for dinner one night. This dish appears on most restaurant/cafe menus. It consisted of french fries topped with chopped ... read more

This past weekend my friends and I decided to go to Bariloche because it was Semana Santa. We got Thursday and Friday off of school and so we thought it was an opportune time to go and check out what Argentina has to offer. We flew into Neuquen which is the capital of the province of Neuquen and then we took a bus to Bariloche. The bus ride was 5 and a half hours, which is a bit different than the four that our travel agent told us. We made it to Bariloche Thursday evening. We decided that we were going to take full advantage of what Bariloche had to offer and went on excursions all three days we were there. Our first day there we took a boat tour. The tour started at 7 am, ... read more
