Come for the accommodation, stay for Robin Williams in green tights...
Sooo after a less than magical 26 hr bus trip from Rio DJ to Puerto Iguazu that included; a changeover in Foz Iguazu, freezing cabin temperatures, bus companions with less than amicable gastronomy and an unexplained 1.5hr stop over in the middle of nowhere at 3am with all lights in the cabin on. Cata was later able to confirm from the heated conversation outside of the bus taking place in Portuguese and Spanish that our faithful drivers had apparently answered a 'Booty Call', we arrived two weary travelers keen to check into a hostel and begin our Puerto Iguazu travels

Peter Pan Hostel

Indeed the title of this blog was a reference to the fictional story of Peter Pan and the name of our not so fictional hostel. Against our better judgment we decided to stay at this particular hostel as the more popular alternative was seriously overpriced and to be honest the young lady at the reception was kind of rude.

All puns aside, this hostel was very livable, had nice big rooms, a great pool with outdoor setting for a sunset beer and most importantly, was very clean and the price was right. 'Stop me Schmee, Schmee try and stop me'... (sorry, couldn't resist bad pun)

Day Trip to the Falls

A 35 minute bus trip took us to the doorstep of the Argentinian side of the falls. A short walk to the train of about 500m (which remarkably there is a train to the train for those who really don't like to remain upright for extended periods) and we were ready to tackle the falls, Cata with camera poised.

The day was a mixture of incredible breathtaking views and trying to dodge the main pack of tourists, being near the big group it was unlikely you would see any wildlife and if you did it would surely be chased away by a spotty youth or 10, the lure of the chase always far to tempting...

Despite this annoyance it was a truly awesome trip, the sheer volume of water plummeting down the falls was awe inspiring, made even more so by the ruined support structures of walkway bridges which had been washed away in a heavy downfall many years earlier, reassuring...

One of the regular occurrences wherever you are walking throughout the area is for a gang of maybe 10
getting wetgetting wetgetting wet

La Garganta del Diablo
to 20 of these little furry possum rat creatures (actually known as coatíes) to walk directly into your path, completely fearless of humans and oblivious to everything except bugs, scraps and mischief (see attached video).

Fireworks are fun

'S%!t(MISSING)!' exclaimed Cata, 'He's worked out they're legal in Argentina...'. After a long time perusing the serious arsenal that was at Mikeys disposal, some of which seemed to truly be weapons grade in size and possible ramifications, Mikey settled on x2 fireworks (friendly size comparatively) with plans to ignite ASAP. Due to later dinner reservations, launch was aborted until a later date and destination to be decided...

Next stop, Buenos Aires!!
