a picture says a thousand words..
So..finally..another entry! I know i know..i´ve actually had this entry written for awhile, but i didn´t want to post without pictures..and we haven´t been at a fast enough place yet..and Calie´s camera broke (it won´t let pics upload!) But now it´s all sorted out..we have a card reader etc...sooo...enjoy the next few entries 😊

We made the decision to go from Mendoza to Iguazu Falls first rather than Buenos Aires…This is because of the football (soccer) season in Argentina - we definitely wanted to hit up a game in Buenos Aires, and were told that we should go a little later in February because it´s only pre-season now… so we sucked it up and decided to do the waterfalls first and then head south through Uruguay and then cross over into Buenos Aires from Uruguay. The catch to this decision was the 34 hour bus ride that we needed to take from Mendoza to Iguazu. We were NOT looking forward to it! Let me tell you! But it turned out to be probably the best bus ride we´ve been on! Decent movies, heated food (no more bunwiches!), and really comfortable seats too - we ¨splurged¨ on Cama seats rather than semi-cama. So our seats went quite far back, and were really roomie too. We spent two nights on that bus (saved 2 nights on hostels!) and one full day. And it went really well! We got into Iguazu (which is at the Brazil, Paraguay and Argentinian border intersection) and hung around the hostel and melted in the heat…So hot, and so humid. Mmm sweaty….yuck! Ooh, and then we went to this restaurant for dinner…we ate cow tongue for our appetizer!

The next day we got up nice and early and made our way to the falls. These waterfalls are incredible - According to Guaraní legend (Indigenous culture), a jealous serpent-god created Iguazú Falls by collapsing the riverbed in front of the fleeing lovers Naipi and Caroba; Naipi plunged over the ensuing falls to become a rock at their base, while her lover Caroba became a tree forever condemned to see, but unable to touch, his beloved. How romantic eh? Well the falls were astounding - really impossible to describe. I think they are one of the 7 wonders of the world (6 more to go I guess?) and they certainly lived up to the hype. The only downside with

such an amazing attraction..is that it becomes very touristy and super busy! Despite the hoards of other tourists, the falls still show off their power and magic. One guy we talked to said that his friend went went there an atheist and left believing in God..pretty powerful! The water level was very high when we were there, forcing one of the islands that you normally can walk on to be closed. The water was so high that some of the pathways had been washed out and taken over by the river. The views we got from the other vantage points were still astounding. (I feel like a dork using all these descriptive adjectives…they don´t really do them justice) There was the Devil´s Throat Fall (we got SOAKED by the spray), and then a ton of other smaller ones that you can take the upper and lower pathways to - the day consisted of a lot of stairs, a lot of heat, a lot of spray, and more sweat than you can ever imagine. We were disgusting. Good thing everyone else was also!! Besides the falls, Iguazu National Park had a zillion butterflies - some very friendly ones too! And some

crazy south American racoon type animals called Coatis. There were signs everywhere telling people that they could bite and not to feed them - people definitely were not quite attentive to this! They were cute little things, but they freaked me out! Callie took all the pics of them - I stayed away!!

Later tonight we are hoping on a bus to travel towards the border crossing to Uruguay at a city called Salto. Look forward to hearing from you all! Next...Uruguayan adventures!
