11/7/2008 We decided after class, the girls I’m staying with to take a bus all the way to Mendoza! Yeah, for those of you who aren’t quite sure where in the world Carmen Sandiego like dadada Mendoza, is near the border of Chile-Argentina! So yeah, is was pretty hectic….It took such a long time to get there, the food they served on the bus was either ham and cheese or ham and cheese!
12/7/2008 When we finally got there, it was already like close to 11am, due to the fact that the bus was a bit late (think Mexican Mexican time).. The funny thing about latin America in general, is that everywhere you go the streets are all named after prominent dates or people of their time..in Mexico, everywhere was covered with 5 de mayo, 16 de septiembre, Benito Juarez and so on…Here it was L.N Alem, 9 de Julio, Corrientes, Santa Fe and Callao…It was kind of odd after getting acclimatized in Buenos Aires to then just having to discover the names are the same here but run completely different and last time I checked the 9 de Julio was a lot larger( a joke, 9 de Julio
in Buenos Aires, is the world’s largest avenue).
Anyways, we walked around and checked out the plaza independencia and later walked around near Godoy Cruz to check out some Museo and other types of buildings. Later we decided to head back to the tourist info desk situated at our bus stop and got info about bus hike and vine tours (because apart for horse riding Mendoza is famous for it’s vine)….We visited the Museo(museum) of Vines in a real rural area of the town and got to taste some pretty cool vines…..but later, as we found out that it was impossible to ride any horses because it was the weekends( kind of weird) but anyways, we decided to go to a proper wine tasting place and got to taste and now sort of know the difference between white and different types of red wine, for instance my favourite would have to be the Malbec. We later went to the markets, as always I went nuts over shopping and I finally decided to get a hair extension, like the ones I got in Mexico…so yeah the Trenza! Has reappeared again…
After, we did some chocolate tour and walking through
the streets…We finally had to take a bus back and yeah, another long bus ride and some nice ham and cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to come with it!!!
13/7/2008 When we finally came back at around 10-11am in the morning. I took a quite nap and decided to catch up with a friend I had met recently, she is this cool girl originally from L.A and was here kind of doing a law internship. We decided to go to San Telmo and then sort of got semi lost and then headed to Palermo and Palermo Viejo (which is where all the fun and eating and drinking happens)…We journeyed forever and both of us was in a cool way really stubborn in trying to find what she had described as the best Helado(ice-cream) place here in Buenos Aires, and that speaks volumes as with such a high Italian influence here, gelatos here in general, even the commercial ones taste better than the elegant ones in Australia!
So when we finally were about to give up and get a cab…Bingo! This place popped out literally out of nowhere and I must admit it was well worth the
2-3hr walk! And, that says a lot course, I’m not even that big on ice-cream! After, we decided to meet a friend of hers who recently got into Law Review (which for any lawyer in the States, is like your golden ticket to that ‘dream job’)….So, anyways we ended grabbing some food and chilling for a bit, later I got a tour around his place, which I must admit compare to where I was staying, it was like a penthouse.
14/7/2008 After getting close to zero sleep for the past few days and just continuing at a pretty crazy pace, I finally realized I had a bit of a sore throat developing (i.e I think I got a mini cold)…So after class and going shopping near downtown I decided to head home and looking back now in retrospect, it was probably not only stupid and naïve to have kept walking even when I was ready to collapse like 1 hour through(just out of curiosity, downtown, where the shopping is, is at least 1.5hr-2hr walking time from where I live)….All in all I was kind of crazy, but I must admit the highlight was lying on the seat in the
park looking like a real hobo, with my One hair extension hanging out..
