I am now here in Dos le Iberas, 3 hours down dirt roads in a thunder storm, the bus broke down on the way but everyone was smiling, a sidst man was sat infront of us sharing his food, a rather large sisdt lady beside me snored against the window and Pil was asleep, rocking precauriously back and forward when the bus began to move agian after an hour! When we got to this small village so far from anyone, we had a bit of a suprise..... I had read the wrong page about the place we were coming, and after re reading the right section i realised having not brought any money or food, we might be in a little trouble. There was no bus back until the next day and we had not even enough for the cheapest accomodation!
Since sante fe we spent nearlly three days makign our way to this place, first we took an overnight bus towards Goya...as it was too late for us to hitch out of sante fe, and plus, we were both too worn out to have the mental energy.... Arriving in Goya was odd.....as the towns get smaller, the intensity of
aligators!!
loved them! the expereince increases, its all so new to me, you think nothing is new to you ,and then when it is your overwhlemed. At 4.30 in the morning it is still dark, and the street kids hussle around you , they arent rude, they are nice, but it makes you nervous sometimes. We had nowhere to sleep and we stuck out real bad with our rucksacks...... The thing about goya it seemed was, nobody slept, the town was alive with music and people doing, who knows what? We tried to find a park but we could not and so eventually using our bags as pillows we found a bench in the bus terminal and enjoyed broken sleep till the morning. Pil slept a bit longer but i woke up fresh and really wanting to get hitching. Im always nervous to hitch because im not so expereinced, and i knew i would back out if i had too long to think about it. It was esepcially daunting because of the heat and our lack of spanish. Around 10 am we headed out on the road out of Goya, at first we hung about at the gas station asking for rides but
rarggh
scary fuckers we found out that there were four different directions people were going in, so our odds were small. So in the intense heat and no shade we start to walk down the road towards the rounabout.
The lovely thing about all this was that we were so happy to be doing it, never did i feel annoyed or adgitated by the heat or the fact nobody was stopping for us.
As we were walkign we got a ride with a sisdt man who spoke english and he took us to a good spot, he told us that he would come back in 45 minuites and if we had no ride he would take us a better spot. THe spot was terrible, around 15 cars in an hour, and next to a small police hut! there was a really nice dog there though and a tap , so that helped......... Eventually we were picked up by three argentinian sidst females who took us most of the way to mercedes (the last town before you come to the middle of nowhere!) THey dropped us off at a good spot and just as they were leaving they opened the door and invited
us to their home! We werent sure, cos we had some more hitching to do but we said yes anyway
THey were beautifull, they gave us a wash in a bucket, we drank sweet colde mate, ate tomatoes and bread and they showed us pictures of their travels in the andes and brazil. They were so lovely, we didnt speak the same language so pil used her improving spanish and we got by.....the eldest has lost her husband, and you could see in her face it still hurt, you could also tell they didnt have it so easy, in this small village. Pil i think really felt a connection with this woman and she thinks she shall go back and stay with them. They really didnt want us to leave when we did and they gave us a tour around their village first!
At sunset we made it to mercedes, a small town with just 4000 people. We sat down and drank a beer and felt very happy. Then a man came up and asked us where we were sleeping and we pointed to our tent and told him somewhere! He said you can sleep here on the
the hitchhiking family!
the lovely family we met on the way to mercedes! garden of the bus terminal then off he went. Then next came the owner of the bus terminal.......who sat with us all night and bought us beers until evnentually we had to pitch our tent and tell him it was time to end the party, haha, that was really fun and we forever have a contact now with the bus terminal manager in mercedes if anyone should ever need it!
THe next day we got in a big red van and travelled through the storm to this small town in the middle of the beautifull nature....... I will write more about this after we hve finished here, it is so gorgeous you wouldnt beleive, i hope to have pictures up, but this computer is terrible, os it will have to wait.
please if you can spread this adress to people who might want to read because its an easy way to keep in touch!!
I love you all

how to follow that...
Sam, I sat with tears reading some of this - first tears of laughter at you reading the wrong page, then tears of sadness about the young woman losing her husband. I can't imagine the experiences you are having but it sounds like most of them are extremely good, and rewarding! Long may it continue Love Muv xx
