Cymru am byth!
I got a few frowns climbing up the pole to get rid of the Argie flag, but it was worth it! Into the Valleys of Patagonia then, so to speak. In 1870, a number of welsh emmigrated to Argentina to escape the persecution of the English so they could freely speak their own language and practice their own religion. They settled in area of Patagonia in Argentina and they are still there today. So we stopped for a night in place called Gaiman to check it out.
To say the town was sleepy would give people with narcolepsy a bad name! There was hardly anyone on the streets and nothing seemed to be open. At first I was hugely impressed that the Welsh could settle in such a barren, windy area of Patagonia and make a life here. Now I´m even more amazed that people here can live here 120 years on as there seemed to be nothing here!
So we wandered around having a chuckle at the street names like, Avenida Eduardo Jones. It sounds like a poncy footballer from Cardiff City! And there were quite a few displays of Welsh around such as flags, cars with bumper stickers but mostly "traditional tea shops". We went to one of these and had guess what? All you can eat tea
One lump or two?
Nadine at the Tea House and cakes! Its was ok but all a bit staged and touristy to be honest.
To be honest, we both thought it would of been a bit more welsh (although we did overhear two people speaking welsh to each other) but it was worth going all the same. The highlight was probably getting ridiculously shouted at by a woman for taking a photo of an electricity box with the name "E.Morgan" on it. After apologosing profusely, it turned out that she had emigrated to Wales, lived in Merthyr Tydfil for 30 years, and then moved back home. Just goes to show you. You can take the Bitch out Merthyr..............

Congratulations for making it through ice and snow to provide us with some more wonderful entertainment on a quite miserable September evening! I must say if that is the size of the ice what size are the gin and tonic glasses??? You are both looking extremely well and apart from the climb up the snow volcano am getting seriously envious of your trip. Stay safe and keep the blogs coming they are really great - as they say ' you could write a book'. Give our regards to the Morgans and Jones in Patagonia. Ciao for now Chriss and Phill
