The last couple days has been transition from Beunos Aries to our honeymoon cruise ship; Rhapsody of the Seas. Its actually our 3rd cruise with Royal Carribbean, and 7th cruise together overall. We werent expecting a lot from this one, selected for its itinerary rather than grandeur and luxury. Its actually one of the smallest RC ships. So far though, weve been pleasantly surprised and pretty impressed.
Getting from hotel Moreno to the cruise port was pretty easy. 80ARS cab fare had us there in 15 minutes, just after midday. Checking in was slow going, but a relatively painless experience. Our cabin, 2627 is an interior windowless cabin, but comfy, cosy, quiet and away from crowds. The ship is 11 decks, has indoor and outdoor pools and spas, a gym, several restaurants, cafes, a shopping street, bars and large theatre.
Getting my luggage on our check in night was a lot slower and more annoying than usual. We were on board by 1. Nats bag arrived around 4, yet by 9, I still didnt have mind. Turns out, for
some reason, it was marked by Argentine customs as "containing a potentially banned item". About 100 bags were marked as such, and still loaded onto the ship anyway, and sent to the theatre. That is, some security check in scanner, found "something" he wasnt sure of in 100 bags and set them to be checked on board the ship. The "something" was never specified however, making it pointless. When I found my bag at the theatre, the Royal Carribbean staff had no idea what they were looking for. When asked to open my bag, at Nats suggestion, the were happy to accept that the first visible item, 'hair gel' was 'probably' the problem. I can take my bag. What a waste of time.
Food so far on the ship has been great. Sadly, a lot better than anything we ate in Argentina or Brazil. Weve also already made use of the pool and gym. We'll spend plenty of time at both. So the ship remained in port at Beunos Aries the first night the 13th and left 7pm on Monday the 14th, bound for Montevideo, Uruguay.<br style="line-height: 20px; margin: 0px;
padding: 0px; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 13.3333px;">Tonight was the first, introductory theatre show of the cruise. Suffice to say it was terrible.. just terrible. After half hour of cheesy introductions, in four languages, we finally got to tonights act, a juggler. This was without a doubt the worst professional theatre act of any kind Iv ever seen. The performer, a "juggler" dedicated his show to his grandfather who must have been turning over in his grave. I mean all entertainers make mistakes, and sure, juggling is tricky but this guy was awful. He literally must have had a success rate of under 20%.. he dropped and fumbled everything.. so bad the music stopped. Watching him fail again and again got increasingly awkward and boring so we left.
Really looking forward to another new country tomorrow in Uruguay! We arrive around 8 and are going to get out and explore Montevideo ourselves in 28C sunshine. Cant wait!
An update from sunny Montevideo in Uruguay. Id say these blog updates will go on hold for a couple weeks whilst we're sailing without Internet. I'll keep writing them but may not update for a few
weeks or when im home.
