Monument to Eva
On the site of her house BUENOS AIRES DAY TWO January 30 - Another beautiful day in Buenos Aires. Sunny, warm. My two bags to be checked through were packed and picked up last night, I have to wait for my tour and transfer to the airport bus until 9:15. Everything went smoothly and there were three busloads of people with flights departing in the evening that went through the city with stops at Riboletta Cemetery, a cemetery in one of the wealthier parts of town, where Eva Peron is buried. She is an interesting personality in Argentina’s history. People loved her or hated her, primarily along class distinctions. After busing through a few more neighborhoods we made a stop in the market area of one of the poorest neighborhoods, Il Camitto (I don’t have my notes handy, so the spelling is probably off). There were all sorts of handicrafts, sidewalk tables for refreshments, etc., but nothing I was interested in. Another ride then to the airport, but since I had close to seven hours to wait, I took the option of spending a couple of those at the “Holland America Hospitality Room” at the Holiday Inn at the airport. There were probably 75 of us waiting
for shuttle buses to the nearby airport as our varying flight times approached. They provided coffee, tea, orange juice and croissants, but I wanted something more and there was a nice restaurant connected to the hotel.
The restaurant had a menu with English subtitles but I needed more info and my assigned waiter didn’t speak English, so he got some help translating and things worked out well. I don’t know the Argentine name for the dish, but I had Caesar salad and two pieces of barbequed short ribs and chicken breast and leg. They were served on a heated metal plate and were good. Three draft beers followed by espresso and ice cream (their ice cream rivals gelato) and the bill came. I used the opportunity to try my Argentine currency and it worked! No jail time! Good experience.
The shuttle to the Delta terminal went smoothly and check in was efficient. Security check was not as rigorous or stressful as in the US. I had a select comfort economy seat which was appreciated, but the plane was using a new terminal and the new baggage handling equipment hadn’t been installed yet, so there was a delay in

WITH HER FAMILY leaving due to manual baggage loading. The bags did show up in Atlanta and Tampa, so all is well. The trip was fun, I especially enjoyed Santiago and Buenos Aires, but Antarctica is the gem.
I’ve enjoyed writing this and thinking you are sharing some of the highlights with me. I want to express my gratitude to Shara and Edward for telling me about Travel Blog and Elly and Bob for encouraging me to try it. I would like some feedback if you can suggest ways to make it better for my next trip if you will be following me. February 22 I go on a week long Mississippi River cruise on the American Queen and March 14 I head to Hong Kong. Another advantage to my writing is it keeps me out of the bars for an hour or so every day.
Nice to go traveling, but so nice to come home.
