Another afternoon trek. It´s ok really because at this point I´m just out to get excercise. Oh wait you have no idea what I´m talking about.
Today was another great day of introspection. As my time winds down in Argentina, there are a whole other set of emotions, all part of a seasoned traveller´s bag. But, many of my readers are not seasoned and neither am I, so I might as well bla bla bla...
Night before last was a going away drink for Peter a fellow student at El Pasaje school. He has been here for 6 months, and in South America for 8 months. Anyway, it was a good time and you all probably got some drunken stuff when I got back, and I apologize for that. It has been eradicated!!! hahaha I started with this story because he is going to Mendoza and said I should go too. Being the end of my stay with (at that time) 7 days to go, said I would think about it and let him know. I´m thinking why not, need to see some countryside besides what I can see
flying out... Yea, I´m going.
So after my Harley trip on Wednesday for tshirts and a pin, I get back and start in on the computer, bus vs plane vs spending time somewhere else. It is a 13 hour bus ride and the bus is overnight. Now, were this America, nightmare alarms going off right? No, here they have different classes of service like on an airplane. And, I was warned at the party that I wanted to find, what i remember from the party supra cama.... Well all I could find was first class. The seats supposedly fold down to flat, they serve champagne, have a bar, and movies. So, I book the fare.. 680 pesos. About 15 minutes later, book the hostel there, 24 us dollars for Fri and Sat night, (coming back Sunday overnight.)
I get back to my comfy room, and realize... It´s over!! my Argentina trip is over, two nights here, two nights on the bus, two nights in Mendoza, two more night back in BsAs and I´m done. Wow... Have I seen enough, what do i have to do before I leave? While walking back from Evita´s museum and a Park i
Worn Tile
Along the wall is the original took pictures of, I began to question ... what if I had gotten the apartment here in Palermo, my experience would have been completely different. It´s all good though, I am far from having any regrets. far far....
So the Mendoza bus ride is tonight at approx 9:30pm, 1st class. Mendoza is a town/city known for its wine, and the center of operations for a general who freed Chile, Argentina and I think Boliva or Peru from Spain. I´ll be able to tell more later. It is nestled in the long mountain chain that runs down south america, I think mainly through Chile, and it is WINTER TIME !!! Now for those of you suffering the heat, I will be looking for a snow storm!!!
That is about it... oh my ice cream.
Again, there may be some that know about subways, but Iowa has none.
I have purchased more stuff than I brought luggage for and I have been keeping my eye out for another tote. It will be about 100 pesos. However, I wanted to check out a neighborhood I had gone to a month ago to see about any bargains, and maybe get another
shirt or something. Remember ¨a month ago¨? I was sent here by the hostel kid who told me Walmart was too far to go, and I could get everything I needed in this area. And I remember him saying it was really easy to get to as well only up 3 stops on the subway line right in front of the hostel. So, I head for that Subte line.
My apartment is one more away from the neighborhood, so that should be 4 stops. Well the car is not so packed. stop number 2 more people get on and now we are standing front to back, side to side. I get pushed or move to accomidate. (was that stop 2 or 3,) Ok, stop 4 comes, more people have squished on, and I am 25 people away from the door. Suddenly..mercifilly, everyone turns around and Yipee
this station exits out the other door which I am right in front of!
But, there are no shops, and after doing two rounds of block walking, can´t find any shops. Maybe i got off at stop 3 not 4... maybe i remembered wrong. I´ll get the 100 peso one tomorrow.
On the way back, I go through my routine: look both ways, stop lean, look causual and take out my map book, stare at the street signs without looking obvious and after 3 trys and 3 blocks I am zero´d in back on the way home. Walking. Ah a book store, I´ve been wanting a poetry book. Anyway, I hope this isn´t too boring
Now another routine before I close in for the night... I am looking for an ice cream, and being late at night, the stores are closed, only kiosks. The only one I find to walk in has a power failure in the ice cream bin and they are all melted. I can´t ask for one through the little holed kiosks because although I can figure out the words, this has to be a
look and touch purchase. The only store I know about is back at the hostel............ Big sigh.......... I get there, and think, gotta have something good for me, orange juice and THEN I can have ice cream. 1 liter orange juice 7 pesos, one ice cream 7 pesos. oops I put the ice cream back. Dang, i´m just going to have to
do without the ice cream. I´m not paying twice what the grocery store charges. But wait, 1 block from the apt, is another walkin kiosk never seen before, 5 pesos. I´m happy. Now I´m going to have to find out why chocolate here doesn´t taste like what we are used to. I know it´s in there somewhere, but it just isn´t nestle tasting.
