I completed Museum Quest 2007 today with a visit to Museo de la Inmigración. Here they display all sorts of things from the history of European immigration to Argentina. There is traditional clothing from the different countries who immigrated, ship logs, and video archives. It´s striking to me how similar it is to immigration to the US during the same time period (1880´s to about 1920). It makes me wonder why the immigrants chose one country over the other, and why, when the cultures were so similar, did the countries develop on such different paths.
Afterwards I explored the harbor a bit, and then walked home. It´s so much easier to do this now that I basically live downtown. Now I only need the subte if I´m going out to dinner in one of the other barrios (and the nightlife is centered around Palermo/Recoleta. I walk easily to the latter, the former is easier underground.
I celebrated my first full day in my new place by actually (gulp) cooking my own dinner. Ok, it was just pasta, but I´m a bit limited by the fact that I don´t have an actual oven ( two burner electric stove, microwave,
and the kind of toaster where the bread pops up when it´s done). Still though, I am enjoying having my own space.
