Recoleta Cemetary
This is known as the most unique and beautiful cemetaries in the world and lives up to the name brilliantly. Here I am back in BA for 4 days of relaxation and being a normal tourist for awhile as I travel around BA and check out what I missed before. I had a pretty good but low key 5 days in town here with one major highlight and probably the best night out on the whole trip. I got in from Ushuaia at like 2 in the morning on sunday and then had a cab drive me around to like 5 hotels to get a room. I finally found the lovely hotel Maipu for around 20 a night which was fine for me. The main goal of coming back early was to get my visa set up so right away the next morning I went to the Brazilian Consulate and got everything in order. I left there and took off to recoleta cemetary which is the most famous cemetary in Argentina and possibly the world. It was a amazing place with immaculate tombs of the most famous and prestigeous people in Argentina. I walked around in there for a couple hours and then went back to the hotel to get my laundry done and get some stuff done on the internet.
The Maze
Its like a huge maze of vaults taking up a couple city blocks. Only the most weathy and prominant people from argentinas history are buried here. The next day I headed up to the delta of Tigre which is a city about 1 hour north of BA where there are tons of cabins and watersport activities. It was a really unique area with tons of cabins and channels everywhere all eventually leading out into the ocean. The main reason for my visit there was for a wakeboarding run or two with the old south american champion. I took a water taxi from Tirgre which dropped me right off at the dock and then waited for a half hour or so getting majorly sunburned for my turn. I had a couple good runs and well worth the 30 bucks it cost. Afterwards I was pretty drained and cntinued to get further sunburned while I waited for the taxi to get back.
On the way home I got a nice lunch and then checked out South Americas largest amusement park. Pretty embarrasin I must say but I hit one good coaster and the rip cord which was OK. Got home pretty late and was really tired. The next day I pretty much spent the whole day making calls and putting pictures on the blog and researching
This is what my head stone is going to be like
pretty extravagent huh. There were hundreds like this around this place, but it was tough to get good pics because they were right on top of each other. the rest of my trip. After about 8 hrs on the net I had enough and was ready to have a couple beers as Tom was back in town.
We met up at a good local spot and had some sort of soup made of mash potatoes and meat. It was really good and only a couple bucks. Much less than the 30 I spent on sushi the night before. After dinner we got ahold of a girl from the spanish school and met up with a bunch of people out at some bar. Tom and I ended up talking to a girl from Wisconsin and New Zealand and then headed off to the Brazilian Club which I went to over my last trip.
Right whe we got in there the brazilian dance team, which are like paid entertainment was doing a local dance on stage and the girl from Wisconsin was telling me how she would really like to learn how to do that. Well only a couple minutes past and it appeared they were asking for volunteers to come up on stage. As she was moving up there and I was grabbing her purse and beer
This ones got to be old
You get a erie feeling walking around in this place and at times I wondered if It was really ok. I mean its a major tourist destination and stuff but it just felt odd at times. the guy on stage started pointing at me and signaled that I had to come to. What the hell did I just get myslef into. Guess it was suppose to be like a couples thing as there ended up being 2 couples and us on stage in front of a couple hundred people. Its kind of wierd but I never really even got nervous for a second and jsut kind of rolled with the whole deal. Right away the guy told us to kiss and we just kind of looked at each other strangely and played the roll. Then the music came on and this is where we shined. They had a medoly of tunes for about 10 minutes and we tore the hell out of that stage whipping out every thing we could think of and even lookign pretty good in the process as told by our friends. It was one of those moments in life when things just happen so fast you dont really realize what your actually doing until its done, but it was one of the best experiences I have had in BA going out yet. Especially since we won. They argentines had no chance. Got
Taxi anyone
This is one of the water taxis used to get around in the delta. They will drop you off at any dock along the way. It was a pretty cool experience. a free beer out of the deal and better yet some memories I will never forget. That one will be tough to beat for sure.
The next day I just spent getting more things finalized for my travels and picked up my laundry and visa. I wasa ready to roll to brazil. For dinner I met up with Omar and Naty at there house and had a great pasta dish with salmon in the shells. Great meal with great people once again. We even got Kregg who they work with back in the states online and talked to him over web cam. It was pretty cool and the first time they have seen him lbesides in photos after working together for over a couple years. Didnt get home from there until around 2 and I took a hour nap packed and then headed for the airport for what hopes to be 5 of the craziest days of partying in my life. I have my fingers crossed.
I also though a map in here to so you can kind of have a visual of where I have been so far.
