Nadine and Rob tangoing the night away!
Feliz Año Nuevo to you all from a hot and sultry Buenos Aires.

Spent a few sweltering days mooching around the city taking in the sights, sounds and smells! BA is a beautiful city on a grand scale, with gorgeous old buildings and friendly people. Hostel is cumfy and homely complete with black cat, also next to a busy bus route (ear plugs a must at night!).

Highlights include incredible tango show (thinking of you Di!), bounteous grilled meat (WARNING - Argentina not suitable for vegetarians!!) and the incredibly ostentatious Recoleta Cemetery including Eva Peron´s mausoleum.

Yesterday was a soothing and tranquil trip to the Tigre area in the Delta of the Parana with cooling waterways and mozzies galore; hurrah for the tropics! New Year´s Eve was an experience like no other ... the 100 piece Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim conducting to a 20,000 plus crowd in the traffic-free, widest street in the world beneath the obelisk (take a look on Google Earth). All this followed by a search for dinner that ended in the only place open; a local Bolivian grill, with half a chicken, most of a porker (I gave them the sign

Old port, poor area but colourful with lots of soul and too many tourists
of the pig), beer and shared fizzy wine, we sat at a table in the street with the increasingly drunk Ezekiel and other new Bolivian friends. We survived the madness of a Latin American Firework display, including wall to wall bangers and hand-held rocket launchers! Phhew!

Off to seek shady nature reserve today to escape the 35 degree heat (ha ha ha). Heading off on Wed to coast for few days by overnight bus, en route to see whales and the Welsh!

Love to you all for 2007!

Nadine and Rob x

Well Rob you are missed in Kendal but I am sure you aren't missing Kendal. Guess what - your interactive pens aren't working and your replacement has had to borrow one of mine. He has been warmly welcomed. Sounds like you are both having a wonderful time. Keep safe. Happy New Year.

Kendal New Year
My New Year was slightly different! I persuaded my elderly parents to brave the storms (Force 3 with rain and a little bit of mist over Thirlmere) and join me in my empty house (remember husband in Antarctica!!!!!!) and they stayed up until 12.30 with a sherry and half a glass of Sauvignon Blanc..........the fireworks on bbc 1 over the Thames with Natasha Kaplinsky commentating were nearly as interesting as yours..........Love Chris
