Entering the Bohemian National Forest
We almost welcomed the change from beautiful pastoral scenery to the dark looming forests of the Sumava Mountains. During the Iron Curtain days the Communists kept the area uninhabited because of its proximity to West Germany. Apparently too many people used the cover of the trees and mountains to escape to the West in the years immediately following WWII.
