The Mackinac Bridge
At a total length, including approaches, of five miles, the Mackinac Bridge is currently the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world and is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. The bridge opened to traffic on November 1, 1957. It crosses the Mackinac Straits to connect the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan.
