Michelangelo's Doni Tondo

Michelangelo considered himself a sculptor and rarely did paintings, or even frescos (as at the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel). This apparently is his only surviving painting. It looked terrific: what a talent/genius. We were told that Michelangelo sculpted differently to others. Instead of preliminary drawings and plaster models, he would just start chipping away, to reveal the "soul of the marble". He left behind several sculptures unfinished - he was the only one who knew what was intended.
