The Original Compressor Used in the Carving

Korczak built a series of steps and ladders from where this used compressor was positioned and where he was working. He'd carry the drill and hoses up to the work area. Sometimes he would be halfway up a ladder and hear the compressor go kaput, kaput, kaput. He'd go back down (carrying all the gear), restart the compressor--it started with a hand crank--wait to make sure it would stay running, gather the gear and head up again. Other times he would be in the middle of drilling and hear kaput, kaput, kaput. He got a good workout using this compressor. Eventually he got a more reliable one, but he used this one for many, many years.
