We had lunch in Hiroshima at an okonomiyaki restaurant. They cooked our lunch in front of us. This was the first step.

Let me explain. There's a few reasons for our title, none of which mean we didn't enjoy our time in Japan. We enjoyed it immensely. We did find, however, that we had a bit more trouble communicating while we were in this country than we have had in other countries on our trip.
