Vicksburg National Military Park, Mississippi

Shirley House - The Union troops called this house "the white house". It is the only surviving wartime structure in the park. The family that lived here were for the Union solders. They put a white flag in the windows and the Union troops then moved them to safety. The house was then used as heard quarters of the 45th Illinois infantry.
