Happy trails!
I'm so glad you got a good taste of the best of California--our nature is so much better than our cities. I really hope you return, and you don't even need a 4-wheel drive--just your feet and a pack for the best backpacking ever. Yosemite, of course, but also Sequoia/Kings Canyon Parks in the Sierra Nevadas (Snowy Mountains) where you'll be alone with lots of wildlife, mountain ridges and alpine lakes and meadows--perfect for you guys!
