Phnom Penh...with the kids...

This is my third visit to Phnom Penh, the last one having been something like 4 to 5 years ago. Palaces
The palaces are so lovely but such a waste of money. We always have mixed feelings about these places. Cambodia is a history lesson. Sad.

waste of money
The entry fee for the Palace is 5usd...so not really crazy expensive for spending an hour wondering around. If now you refer to a waste of money instead of having spend that money on the people...some will argue that populations need symbols to believe in, and that pretty often, the amount of money invested in these symbols is irrelevant and would be at better used directly for the populations. Well...the coming World Cup is a good example of my point...but I admit, I don't have a clear view on the issue. PP on the other side have moved forward so much as a developing Asian city since I first visit in 1997....that I guess the average local population can only enjoy some of the improvements...
