Our first camp after the kauri forest was a beach site on the east coast at Uretiti (correct pronounciation unknown - we're going for "You're a titty"). It was in the dunes behind a huge wide beach, very shallow, so would be good for swimming - I went in but not far, as the tide was out and it looked like I'd have to wade for about half a mile at knee height before it got deep enough to swim.
