Until very recently, the only way to obtain Myanmar currency was on the black market. Only in the last few months have the government, and its banks, accepted that the US$ is worth 800kyat, not 8! Street dealers still sell kyat, but will most likely rip you off. They and other men often store their cash rolled up in the top of their longis.
