Ashgabat, Turkmenistan - Land of Gold and Weirdness!
April 13th 2011 Turkmenistan was the strangest country I'd ever visited. Described by some as a cross between Las Vegas and Pyongyang, Ashgabat, its capital, was all I expected it to be and more, easily making it into my top five cities visited. I especially adored the gold statues of Turkmenbashi - the ex-president - and I loved the lurking policemen who made me feel like a spy whenever I got my camera out.
