April 16th 2006 After a few uneventful hours we arrived in Arequipa, Peru's second most-important city (both historically and economically), which is nicknamed La Ciudad Blanca ("The White City") because many of its historical buildings are made of sillar, a perfectly white volcanic rock quarried from the nearby volcanoes.
