hang me out to dry

row upon row of concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone. The clothes are soaked in sudsy water, thrashed on the concrete slabs, then tossed into huge vats of boiling starch and hung out to dry. then they are pressed and piled into neat bundles. same color system as tiffin wallahs.

In mumbai now, done and dusted with goa, where lethargy and inertia is de rigueur. The monsoon put a dampener on things, literally, as the seasonal rains deluged us on end.
