Before Angel Island was a park it was used as a military base. There is a jail on the island in case any soldiers became rowdy!

In a delightful book by Jeff Brown, Flat Stanley is a little boy who was flattened when a bulletin board fell on him. He wanted to travel and visit his friends but it was too expensive to go by plane or train. Since Stanley was so flat, his family mailed him to visit his friends.
