Model Of How The Floating Islands Are Made

The bottom layer is reed roots which are cut in blocks from where they grow near the lake edge and tied together. On top of that they pile up cut reeds. And finally onto of that go the houses and people. The best thing about living on a reed island is, if you dont like you neighbours you can simply cut you part of the island off and anchor up somewhere else!

If I felt posh when I took the Vistadome train up to Machu Picchu I felt like I had royal blood running through my veins when I boarded the Andean Explorer, an Orient Express train which took me from Cusco to Puno!
