The Merlion

Merlion is a mythical beast with half-lion and half-fish body. The upper half of the torso is lion-like and the lower half fish. Legend has it that a Sumatran prince saw this mythical animal and named the island (erstwhile Singapore) as Singapura (Singa - lion, pura - city), which is now Singapore (Lion-city).
