which is noted for quicksand, so once you start, you don't stop, and the bus swerved around a bit as the driver spotted patches to avoid. We did stop on a safe bit for sandboarding (see video). Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to turn the film round, you'll have to look sideways!

We booked a hostel in Kaitaia and took a bus trip up to the cape. You can drive up the beach, the buses do, but its pretty dangerous and you have no car insurance if you break down and the tide comes in.
