Ben at Abu Simbel

There are two temples at Abu Simbel...the Pharaoh's temple and his queen's temple. This is one of the statues in front of the Queen's. When they built the Aswan Dam in the 1960's, the Nile south of the dam was flooded and turned into Aswan Lake. Abu Simbel would be totally submerged!! So they undertook a massive project to take down and reconstruct the temples on higher ground. This was one of the most difficult and impressive deconstruction/transport/and reconstruction ever done. It's astounding to think how they did that when you see the temples
