Mt. St. Helens - Post 1980

Notice that the north face of the mountain slid down into the valley and the top of the mountain was blown completely off. Mt. St. Helens is one of the Cascade volcanoes, just as the volcanoes that are located in Alaska that compose the "Ring of Fire". The "Ring of Fire" is a notorius zone of volcanoes that produces frequent, often destructive earthquake and volcanic activity. After the eruption the mountain now stands at approximately 8,077 ft. tall.

Our most exciting visit to date was to Mt. St. Helens. We had no idea of the devastation this area suffered from the violent volcanic eruption that occurred at 8:32a.m on Sunday, May 18, 1980.
