The Death Wall

The death wall, located in between blocks 10 and 11, was where prisoners sentenced to death by firing squad were taken to be killed. The original wall, destroyed in 1945 after the camp was liberated, has been reconstructed in tribute to the many who died here. Block 10, seen to the left, was the block used for medical experiments (such as the forced sterilization of the female prisoners). The windows of the block were covered (as seen in the photo) so that the women couldn't see what was happening outside.
Krakow and the Ghosts of Auschwitz

Our day started off with a city tour of Krakow. We went first to Kazimierz, the Jewish Quarter (and also the location where some scenes of 'Schindler's List' were filmed). There is a memorial in the center of the street commemorating the lives of the 65,000 Jews from Krakow who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
