The Winter Palace

"The Winter Palace with its huge dimensions, rich decorative scheme and grand appearance is a personification of the might of the Russian Empire and the supreme power of its autocrat. The palace was built on the left nank of the Neva which had been earlier chosen for his modest structures by Peter the Great himself. Its project was designed by Francesco Bartolomoe Rastrelli, an acrchitect of genius, who also supervised the initial phase of its realization, started in 1754 and completed in 1762 when Catherine the Great was on the throne.
Weekend in "Peter"

I had a very good weekend in, as they would call it, "Peter", short for Saint Petersburg.
