Flagler College
Built by millionaire developer and Standard Oil co-founder Henry M. Flagler, it was completed in 1888, as the Ponce de Leon Hotel. Now it is the dormitory for freshman at Flagler College. It still has the grandeur of its glory days. At the time of construction, the hotel was the first of its kind constructed entirely of poured concrete, using the local coquina (seashell) stone as aggregate. In addition, the hotel was one of the first buildings wired for electricity from the onset. The power was supplied by DC generators installed by Flagler's friend, Thomas Edison.
