This is a tar extraction pit in. For a while Sweden was the largest producer of pine tar in the world. Sweden was so dominating that pine tar was also referred to as Stockholm tar.

Pine tar history
I started reading about pine tar and how Sweden was dominating the world market for a while. It turned out that the bulk of all pine tar was shipped via a small island in Stockholm. An island I have visited several times without having the slightest idea of its history as a pine tar distribution hotspot.
