"A wonderful bird is a pelican
His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week,
But I'm damned if I see how the helican."
I understand Dixon Lanier Merritt penned this as a limerick in 1910.
It was later published in 1940 by the American poet Ogden Nash, best known for his humorous rhyming verse, in his "The Face is Familiar"
