Mural in Suchitoto

Portrait of Oscar Romero, an advocate of the victims of the civil war, who was assassinated after a homily in 1980. The quote roughly translates as "The structures of social injustice have given a slow death to our poor." Despite the somber theme, the people are depicted as extremely happy. Not sure if that's the artist(s) attempt at irony but it is an accurate depiction of the attitudes we encountered in El Salvador. HONDURAS From Tikal, Guatemala, we traveled south to Copan Ruinas, Honduras. Named for the once great Mayan City that sits just outside of town, Copan is a lovely town surrounded by lush rolling hills and green tobacco fields.
