Strange Cloud Pattern in the late afternoon We have left Spain behind in our wake and we are headed for France. This is our first “Sea Day” in more than a week and frankly we appreciate having a day of rest before we start another stretch of exciting port cities. So this report may seem kind of tame to you, but it was enjoyable for us.
We got up and went to the dining room for a nice breakfast of Eggs Benedict for Janet and of Pancakes for David. Over the past couple of days the new staff has improved their breakfast performance and we got seated and served pretty promptly today. Then we split up to cover both the Knitting Group and the Fitness Center. Janet met with half a dozen of her crafty friends in the Crooners Lounge on deck-6 and they had a nice time with their needlework and chatting about “stuff”. David went up to the Fitness Center on deck-17 and reintroduced himself to the Treadmill again. Three miles later we met up again in the cabin on deck-9.
At lunch time we went to the Crown Grill on deck-7 where they were having “Pub Lunch”. Janet had

Jerry & Joyce Deming Fish & Chips and David had Bangers & Mash. Janet had stopped along the way to get a cup of hot tea (because they hadn’t had tea available during the previous lunches) and David got a glass of Newcastle. The food was good and that restaurant is very comfortable for dining, so we had a really nice lunch. We declined their offers of Bread Pudding for dessert and instead we went to the International Café on deck-5 where we each ate a whole apple pie for our dessert. OK, these were only 4” pies, but we ate them all and they were delicious (maybe could have benefited from a scoop of ice cream).
After lunch David went up to the Horizon Court on deck-16 to pick up a stack of cookies. These aren’t for today but are to take along on our excursion tomorrow to ward off any mid-morning hunger pains. He got a can of American Coke and a bottle of water while he was up there. We have to start watching the markings because there were a lot of Europeans who joined the cruise in Barcelona, and they have a different formula for Coke -

Janet & David it’s kind of yucky L. He also got another cup of tea for Janet and then we met in the cabin to read of for an after-lunch nap. All this up and down stuff has worn us out, and it turned into an almost-all-afternoon nap by the time we were done.
The weather has been dry all day, although heavily overcast. It certainly was not a good day to try to work on a suntan. About 4:00 David went up to get a couple of “today cookies”, and there were a couple of hardy folks pretending to enjoy the swimming pool, but all the people watching the movie (yes, they even show them during the day) were bundled up in blankets and pool towels to keep warm. While he was outside the clouds in the sky started looking strange. The ride has been smooth all day until this evening when you could feel some rolling motion, and a brisk breeze was blowing anytime you were outside. After dinner time it started raining and the forecast for tomorrow is not very encouraging.
While we were getting dressed for dinner we noticed that the fire sprinkler head in our cabin, slowly started dripping. We reported it to our steward who said “that’s not good” and he was going to get maintenance on it right away. When we got back later in the evening, the sprinkler was fixed and we’ve avoided a problem. By while we were away we kept thinking of an experience on the Alaska Cruise when the neighbor cabin of our friends Barbara & Mike got flooded from a water leak. So we are happy this seemed to have been resolved quickly.
We went to the Club-6 for happy hour and had Shrimp Cocktails and Rum Cocktails. Then we went to the dining room for a delicious dinner. We both started with a course of French Onion Soup (that should have been tomorrow when we are in France), and then David had a Caesar Salad. For her entrée Janet had Veal Pasta and David had Atlantic Salmon. Joyce’s birthday is tomorrow and Janet’s is later in the cruise, but they had jointly decided to celebrate this evening. Joyce brought Janet some sparkly finger nail polish from the boutique as a birthday present. The ship gave each of them a small personal size birthday cake with a candle, and the waiters sang Happy Birthday. David had the Cheesecake. Of course we had wine with dinner and liquors afterwards. We had to bring part of Janet’s chocolate cake back to the cabin for another time.
Then we went to the Princess Theater for a show. We had decided to skip the free glass of champagne being offered at the Captain’s party in the Piazza. The show was a ventriloquist named Kieran Powell. He was pretty good and the show was entertaining. Now we are back in the cabin and getting settled in for the night. It was a good restful day and we are all charged up to go ashore and see France tomorrow. Good night.
