Extremes of temperature
Guess what? Gained another hour, clocks went back again last night, by this time I am wide awake at 06.00! Managed to stay in bed until 07.15 then made tea and sat on the balcony watching the sun come up, it was going to be a scorcher!
Nabbed us a Posh bed then met Alex on the open deck for breakfast. Had an hour in Posh before making our way to the ships technical team Q&A session. The First Engineer, Hotel Director and the Captain on stage ready to answer any questions. They were all really personable and funny, I guess they had to have a sense of humour when people asked ridiculous questions like could the cabin lights be made more bright....really! Alex asked a sensible question about the possibility of solar power being utilised, think they were suitably impressed. All in all very interesting.
Back to Posh to meet up with Kelly and Ben to hot the water slides. Had a great laugh on the slides until we were exhausted and ready for lunch. Spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in the sun.
I will try to get photos but must
point out the very odd couple who are onboard, nothing to do with the entertainment staff but each day they are dressed in increasingly bizarre costumes ranging from Elvis and Marilyn Munroe to today's ensemble, he was wearing a lime green Borat style mankini with a huge stuffed (at least I hope it was) posing pouch, bold as brass at the buffet, it was enought to put diners off their bratwurst (today was German day at the garden cafe).
Met up with Kelly and Ben at the Shakers bar before donning our fur lined parkas and gloves and braving the Ice Bar. A cool 10 degrees below zero the entire bar is crafted from ice, with ice sculptures of vikings and polar bears, ice seats, ice bar, ice glasses and ice lining the ceiling, even the floor was seriously frosty. It was totally freezing, after seconds of entering our noses were freezing and we had to do some kind of crazy jig to keep us vaguely warm. We got two free drinks all vodka based and it was super strong so Kelly and I wimped out and chose a non-alcoholic one for the second. After chatting with the bar
man and asking him what he had done wrong to get the ice bar gig, we were just about frozen so left the guys in there being all macho determined to stay on as long as possible. A few minutes later they were out ans we were ready for hot warming food at the Manhattan restaurant. Alex and Kelly chose the odd but delicious pulled pork on pasta, Ben had the beef skewer and I chose the Moussaka.
It was fiftys rock and roll night at H2o so we went along for a quick bop and a spell of people watching. The odd couple didn't disappoint and showed up in full Marilyn Munro and Elvis costumes, strangely they didn't stay long and left us wondering what on earth they get up to back in their stateroom!
No towel animal tonight but we still have Frazier and the crab!
