We are ready to sail!



We spent the last five days preparing everything on the boat; basically, we set up a fully working lab. We have all the makings of a normal working lab with filtration systems, flow cytometry, microscopy and molecular analysis capabilities. In addition to the water sampling that Assaf, Uri, Miguel and myself will be doing, Yoav and Shlomit will be sampling the air above the phytoplankton blooms, looking for all sorts of interesting stuff, so they spent all week setting up the coolest system for sampling and analyzing the chemistry and biology up there.<span> We were very lucky to have Miri and Michel here, to help set up this amazing system. Actually, we just said goodbye to them. Poor guys, they did all the hard work but won’t actually be on the cruise.



We have all been assigned our rooms, two people per room (apart from Uri, who got the only 4 person room on board…) every two rooms share a bathroom and shower. The sleeping arraignments will take some time to get used to. The beds are VERY small, I’m sure we’ll all have some bruises from kicking the walls during the night.



The crew on board is amazing; they have tones of experience and are happy to help us novices with everything we need. There’s also a great atmosphere among the science team, let’s hope it continues!



We are off, and I’m heading out on deck to look for dolphins.
