In our attempt to find an anchorage, rather than a mooring field, we spent much of our time between Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, and Diamond Cay, Jost Van Dyke. We spent many days at the beach in CGB and at Diamond Cay we enjoyed hiking to the jacuzzi pool. It was a very dry spring with a lot of Sahara Sand in the atmosphere.
Enjoyed so many lazy, hazy days in the BVI.
May 9th, 2015 - Enjoying the BVI!
Hello all,
From Culebra, PR, we moved through washing-machine-like seas to St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. (That was a miserable four hour sail.) There, we staged ourselves in Brewer's Bay, near the airport, for a week, in anticipation of Tony's BFF arriving in a week.
We are now in the British Virgin Islands. We've been here since April 15th. Jimmy Carter (not the former US President, Tony's Bestie) joined us in St. Thomas, USVI on April 13th and together we moved to St. John, USVI and then crossed into the BVI on the 15th. We then had a whirlwind Charter week of great sailing to show Jimmy some of the highlights of the BVI. That's the nice thing about the BVI at this time of year....there's plenty of sailing to be done...trade winds are in full swing, and you can count on 15 knots of wind from the East everyday to get you to where you want to go! It's been a long while since we've turned on the engine. It's also been a VERY long time since we've had any kind of significant rainfall. The last time we had rain that was worthy of collection was April 12th. Our solar panels are doing an amazing job of supplying us with all the power we need for fridge, freezer, etc. Even with all the Sahara dust in the atmosphere, (that's been a big thing here - many lazy, hazy days and sunsets) our panels are keeping up (after we wash off all the dust). Impressive.
I've been absolutely struggling with wifi here. I've found several really great places for wifi while Jimmy was visiting, but didn't have time to upload photos during the whirlwind week and now that he's gone, we moved on to Cane Garden Bay for two weeks and the wifi has been awful. Even purchasing a plan has gotten us nowhere! We moved over to Jost Van Dyke
for the past two days for a last hurrah with our friends aboard Shangri-La, and I've been scurrying to upload photos to the blog!! I've gotten the first bit on the photo blog started. So you'll see pics from St. Thomas, St. John, USVI for now.
Sending a shout out to all the MOM'S out there for Mother's Day tomorrow! Happy Mom's Day, Ladies....and to my Mommy especially! 😉
Then to all, much love and many kisses from the crew of Inspiration!
