Hello all We finally made it to NZ and arrived in bright sunshine in Auckland before transferring to Quantas for the flight to Christchurch. Cloudy but warm with some snow on the mountains just to the north Setting off to tour the city tomorrow by tram and then on foot. Getting a shuttle bus to Brighton beach tomorrow for bonfire and fireworks. Staying in the Charlotte Jane hotel in a residential suburb of Christchurch. It's a boutique hotel lots of wooden floors and panelling. It used to be a school and has been turned into a lovely hotel. Looking back to Kl can recommend flying with Malaysian airlines and staying at hotel Shangri La in KL. More reports tomorrow and hopefully pictures soon - technology dependent Regards Derek & Joan... read more

Hi all Hope you are enjoying this trip as much as we are. Christchurch is a wonderful place great people and a great community feel to the place. Pace of life just right and very relaxed attitudes - not seen or heard anyone stressed yet! I've put some photos on the earlier entries. Hope they look ok. Took a tram trip around centre of C'church today takes 25 mins right round then you can get on and off as often as you want. Ticket lasts 48hrs. Nice buildings and lovely botanical gardens lots of flowers out right now. Had a meal in local pub last night cooked by stonegrill method. You get a piece of stone at 400 degrees temp and a piece of choice of meat and then you turn it over as often as ... read more

Went to tawharanui with my family for a weekend away at the neighbours bach (holiday home). Sat out on the deck having dinner then played tennis but it was too hot. Went to Omaha beach for a surf then set off for Goat Island, a marine reserve where you can go diving, snorkelling or on the glass bottom boat. Looked really choppy from the carpark so as we had all been there before we left. Me Neil and Joe went off for another surf and played rugby on the beach then met the others back at the house for a BBQ. In the morning I listned to Great Britain get beat by New Zealand in the tri nations while the others went for a surf. Went to Goat Island again and went snorkelling this time. Could ... read more

About 10 minutes walk away from the house is Titirangi village. It has the usual supermarket, dairy, chemist library etc. The Hardware café is a popular place throughout the day and night and also Tobys Restaurant where I worked behind the bar. I went to the village during the day to get some lunch or have a drink at the hardware, occasionally at night to have a few beers with Neil and his mate Peej and obviously go to work or have a drink at Tobys.... read more

To be honest, I did not know New Zealand was composed of two islands before I went. Yeah I know, I am pretty ignorant. Anyways, so our travel iteniary is pretty much the following. Fly into Auckland, which is the biggest city in the North Island, and then take another flight down to the southern tip of the North Island and take the ferry into the South Island. Rent the car at the South Island and make a loop around. After that, return to the north, rent another car, and start making our way back to Auckland airport again. Because the South Island was so desolate and unpopulated, coming back to the North Island almost felt like you are back in civilization in someways. Well, on the downside, it also meant more cars, more people, and ... read more

Hello all! We haven't been up to much lately, which is why there hasn't been a blog for a while. The best piece of news that I have is that we both have jobs - yay! - Graeme starts on Tuesday as a planner with an engineering company and I'm temping for the moment. There's not any teaching work as it's the end of the school year, but I've landed on my feet with temping as I'm working in the Mayor's office at Auckland City Council and it's pretty interesting - I'm learning things about NZ! Graeme's job is a 6 month contract so we'll be here till April at least, so if any of you are going to be in the area, drop us a line :-) Other news... Graeme has decided to enter the ... read more

So, here we are sat back in the UK, 3 months after we left NZ after spending nearly 12 months there, i've got a tear in me eye!! ... it was such an amazing place and we met so many amazing people, we were really upset to be leaving and think about the things we experienced and the people we met all the time, we're always looking at our photo's remember what once was!! One of the reasons we liked it so much was because it was so far away from any other country that it has it's own uniqueness about it, it does take ideas from other countries but then puts a kiwi touch to it! Anyway I can't write any more as I am sooo upset about being here in the UK thinking about ... read more
