We have had some terrible storms and very high tides recently, plus a tornado visited our street and chucked gates, fences and concrete roof tiles across the road and into our yard. But it was finally calm enough for us to go to the beach at Patea to check out the Waitangi, along with many other locals we are visiting her as they have never seen her so completely exposed. She must currently be one of the most visited and photographed wrecks in New Zealand. Standing 'on' her, with the sea swirling round you, is surreal and gives you an idea of what it must have been like to sail on her.

I will let my photos tell the story. You may notice my 4-legged assistant in one or two of them.
