World's Adventure Race
Getting ready for the challegeHave you ever wondered how these people can do this sport? it has to be the most challenging event there is both physical and mental.
Tomorrow starting at Westport on the West Coast of the South Island 184 participants in teams of four will begin one of the world's most grueling contests of mind and spirit. Not for the faint hearted. The race is strictly a team effort as the winning team must come in as a whole as all teams to make a show must. How to work out this top quality concept is an effort in itself.
The event should take at least four days. That's four days of kayaking both ocean and river, running, trekking(hikiing), caving, abseiling down the mountain sides, mountain biking and rafting. This is over some of the roughest terrain on the world. Snippets of sleep throughout to keep up the energy.
It looks as if today the weather is about to crack up on top of it for the race tomorow.
Wet, tired, body aching, feet blistered and sore and the brain turned to putty the contestants from all over the world will walk, run stumble and fall across the finish
line.
How to enjoy a week in the beautiful West Coast mountains to sea. I'll be there but strictly as a spectator who is in awe of these people who call this a sport. My hats off to them!

The Balance Vector team of four Kiwis came in first today almost a half day ahead of the rest if the pack It was a 430km race. Bush bashing through the tough West Coast bush, a 31km hike, then went underground caving for two hours, an hour long mountain bike ride followed by a roping segment along a three mile walk wer a part of it.
The remainder of the field are in a battle for place and are expected in early today.
Amazing!
