Christine's 3 favorite things in N.Z.
- Hiking on the Franz Josef Glacier
- Kayaking in Milford Sound
- Wellington
Justin's 3 favorite things in N.Z.
- Cricket game in Wellington
- Franz Josef Glacier
- Milford Sound
In N.Z. we learned that...
* N.Z. is expensive, especially anything for tourists.
* light switches flip in the opposite direction - down turns things on
* there is no lack of water pressure
* Pearl Jam is bigger than Nirvana
* Ben Harper is huge, but no one has heard of Dave Matthews
* N.Z. bands
Elemeno P and
Zed are popular
* Crowded House is from N.Z. not Australia
* when Justin is hungry, he gets grouchy
* when travel isn't going as planned, Christine gets grouchy
* when Justin is hungry and the travel plans aren't going well, this is very bad (Nelson)
* we should cook in the hostel to save money for activities
* we should never let the Magic Bus book our accommodations
* cricket is great, if maybe a bit long
* N.Z. beer is pretty good - particularly
Montieth's Summer Ale * filter coffee is hard to find and expensive. People drink espresso or
instant.
*
Deep South ice cream is delicious - paricularly the Hokey Pokey flavor
* a Kekeno seal can swim 30 kph
* Lake Taupo is bigger than Singapore and people like to tell you this
* pine trees grow 3x faster in N.Z. than in North America and people really like to tell you this
* Milford Sound is not a
sound at all, but is actually a
fjord (a sound is created by a river, while a fjord is created by glaciers)
* N. Z. was not represented in the Venice Biennale until 2001
* Kiwis do not like being mistaken for Ozzies
* Kiwis always politely ask if we're Canadian rather than Americans. They've been told that Canadians are offended if they are mistaken as Americans, but the reverse isn't true. This really refers to the last point
