So I jumped out of a plane.
I have no idea how it went so well after everything else having gone so badly (please see previous entries)!
I walked down to the sky dive office just before 8:30 am. I saw a lot of clouds in the sky and thought
phew, sky diving's off. Sure enough, when I got to the shop they told me it wasn't going to happen at this stage, however they booked me on an 11:30 jump.
In the mean time I called my mum and had to confess that I was doing a sky dive. I really didn't want to say anything until I had safely landed but I just had to crack!
So I went along at 11:30, the sky had cleared, the jump was on.
I filled in some forms and had to sit in a waiting room watching a video of people jumping for about 30 mins. I was a bit nervous, but strangly calm once I had decided to fork out for the photos and the DVD - at least it wouldn't go forgotten!
We then drove out to the jump site, waited a bit
and eventually got kitted out in my jump (literally!) suit, met my jump master - Ralph, who I would be attached to when falling through the air and learnt what to do, once it was time to jump.
I then got into the plane, I was the first to jump out of my group, which meant I was right by the door of the plane, the only option was down, otherwise the others would be able to get out to their jumps as we were packed into the tiny space like sardines!
I felt my jump master attach me to himself, watched the altitude gauge go up to 12000 feet, smiled for the camera and it was soon time to jump!
We edged towards the open door, put our feet and head back like a banana and slowly just tipped forward out of the plane into the sky!
As I
only jumped 12000 feet, the plane had to go up some more before the others could jumo, they told me they just saw me disappear and got very nervous, thank goodness I didn't have to go through that!
The air contorts your face
into quite amusing shapes, so you have to smile widely to get rid of this! I smiled and raised my eyebrows to almost above my hair line! It was an amazing site and something I don't think I'll ever forget! I was very relieved when Ralph pulled the parachute! As the parachute opened I watched my cameraman plumet away from us at the speed we had been going, which made it feel like we were going up again!
We then floated down over Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown for a few minutes and eventually landed from where we had taken off. A much smoother landing that I would have thought, we just stood on the ground, no running or sitting etc.
Blimey, sorry to have waffeled on like that, but it was some experience!
