Well I must be in vacation mode as I have completely lost track of time. It was not till I received an email about updating my blog, that I realized that it had been nearly 2 months since my last message. For those of you still reading this, I apologise, and I will punish myself by not going out at least once this week.
May 27th?
By this point Ben, Liam and I had been playing far too much golf. So we decided to change things up a bit by switching to yet another great game, Frolf. For those frolf virgins out there this game plays exactly like golf, but instead of a ball this game is played with a Frisbee. An 18 hole frolf course, complete with hazards, had been set up only minutes from downtown Queenstown. So the boys and I decided to have a little competition. This game was hilarious as each of us took turns sucking terribly. Ben even managed to get his Frisbee to land in the lake, more then 200 meters from the fairway.

Luck is once again on my side. I had waited for nearly 5 months
and finally I heard the news that I had received the job at Cornet peak ski field, just outside of Queenstown. Getting this job had been of top priority, as the perks associated with it would save me thousands of dollars during the ski season here in NZ. Not only would I be receiving a free season’s pass at 3 different ski hills, but I also receive amazing deals at many local bars in the city, which understandably is great news. Due to weather I had to start the season a little later then normal, but it mattered little as I began to hang out with my fellow employees (I got a job as a lifty or lift operator). Now I had heard that liftys party the hardest out of anyone who works at ski hills, but I had no idea what that meant till I started to hang with them. These guys are nuts, and make a great night that much better.
The job in itself is a lot of fun, as long as your willing to be a little more friendly then usual. From one day to the next I could be doing anything from helping to
direct cars, to shovelling snow and even helping kids and adults onto varying lifts or magic carpets. Though this job at times can be very fun, at others it can be the most nerve wracking job of your life. Since I had not been a beginner skier for at least 20 years, I had forgotten how hard some people find getting on chair lifts can be. As an example, there are few things more thrilling then watching a couple getting knocked out of their skies, only to get flattened underneath a chairlift….though as the weeks go on this has become less entertaining and more frustrating. But all in all I am very pleased to be working here, especially with fresh powder on the trails.

Once again I must profess that this town is awesome, especially when events such as Winterfest come to town. This week long event has everything a person who loves ski towns would want. Though I was only able to go to a few of these events due to work, I must say that I was duly impressed. First off was mardi gras, which despite the cold was a lot of fun as
we danced to local bands out in the snow with boiled wine in hand. The next event was witnessed as I was at work. I had just help a small child up the chair lift when I looked over my shoulder and to my amazement watched 50 or so farmers running down the mountain side with the dogs barking and yelping alongside of them. I nearly fell of my chair laughing as I watched some people land flat on their face and slide full speed down an ice covered slope. If your wondering what the point of this game was it was simply to get down the mountain with your dog first. Lets just say the young women with the rat side dog, had little chance again the rugby player guys and their huskies.
From the begging of winter till right now
Before I go I just wanted to tell the world about how cold our house is. I had learned months ago that this house did not have heaters but only a single fireplace. I realized this with little concern, especially since it was still warm when I first arrived. But now that some nights dip to
minus 10 outdoors and minus 2 in our house ( yes minus 2) I am started to realize what being truly cold is all about.
Well thats it for now
Catch ya on the flip side
