Headed to the Otago Peninsula via Dunedin. We have developed a strange dislike for cities. Not really cities in general but cities in New Zealand. The cities here aren't particularly worth a stop as there is so much scenery that beats the pants off any museum pictures. So we quickly breezed through Dunedin (Celtic for Edinburgh) and checked into our very own cabin (home for the next 2 days!). Headed out to the Otago Peninsula for a chance at seeing albatross and penguins. The winding roads down the peninsula were a bit hairy at times but an amazing drive. An hour later we arrived to find there is a deep injustice occuring in New Zealand. TK: We have now finally got our camper van; although to call it a camper van is stretching the definition slightly as it is really no more than a car with a really big boot - big enough to sleep in. It does have the advantage that it is painted in a different style and therefore it is easy to find in the parking lot. It has been fun to travel around and stop where we want - no deadlines, no traintimetables to read up, no booking into hotels, just the open road. CK: The van is absolutely gorgeous from the outside and it makes me smile on a regular basis but when we first picked it up I was a little disappointed with the interior. Before we left England on this epic adventure, I remember hearing something on the telly about things people would like to do before they die. Not the most cheerful of topics granted but it was interesting to discover that the number one, top of the list thing to do before you die is swim with dolphins. Well, I hope that doesn't mean that Glynn and I are ready to kick the bucket just yet even if today we got to fulill that very dream - yes, we got to swim with dolphins! Our day began with an enjoyable clambour on the rocks at Curio Bay where fossilised trees from the Jurassic period have been unearthed through gradual erosion by the sea.
