After the long drive from Humner Springs via Westport to Nelson and the last few days in South Island. Picton next stop for Ferry.
Nelson was disappointing in it’s interest for me, managed to get diary fairly up to date
I then moved to Picton to get the ferry to Wellington on the 15th Feb.
Picton a pretty port, at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, the gateway to the South or vice versa to Wellington. Most people travel the other way North Island 1st then the South, all the guide books are that way edited but Phileas is different .It was the same in Australia everyone went north Phileas went South.
Just like airlines the ferry was late leaving. I was not aware that it takes 3hours to do the crossing, 1 hour alone to get out of the Q.C. Sound .Yet again spectacular scenery, but very windy and with the chill factor quiet cold.

I seem to have made a habit of picking wrong weekends to do major travel to cities and yet again hit the jackpot re accommodation The 15th being a Friday was the day the Hurricanes (Wellington Rugby Team so named because of the wind) were playing a super 14 night game and the following day the blackcaps were playing Australia in the Tri series Chappell - Hadlee Tournament. That meant accommodation would be difficult so having forethought I had booked ahead, heard of Murphy’s Law well it was in operation. The ferry being late meant the car hire was late so was going to town in rush hour and with the game on total gridlock took me1 ½ hours for 6klms

SCREAM)!!!
On Arrival at my accommodation “sorry we have no record of your booking”
Phileas went Ballistic. They found me a room.

Wanted to stay a couple of nights in Wellington but accommodation no go where I was, so thought I would look around in the morning.

Nelson
Sorry to hear you were disappointed with Nelson. We took a sea taxi to Abel Tasman where the scenery was beautiful and so were the beaches. Also took a walk through a forest to see some waterfalls. Only stayed in Nelson two nights before going on to Punakaiki. Love L and L
